Those Meerkat Ads have been around for a while and while I thought it was cute, I had not been tempted to check out Comparethemeetkat.com until this evening.
It’s a genius way to stand out in the crowded insurance comparison space. You can actually compare meerkars! Aleksandr Orlov is on Twitter (with over 4,000 followers and lots of folks twittering about it.) and Facebook (with over 170,000 fans). It’s certainly gone viral.
But I notice that confused.com are taking advantage of the fact that this might be confusing to some people with some Google PPC ads.
In the already crowded market of insurance comparison, Compare the Market are much more likely to come up in your search if you remember the Meerkat adverts and search for that. I suppose they are counting on their sister site providing lots of links and traffic to Compare the Market. It’s a memorable advertising campaign and if the Meerkat site continues to grow (a blog is promised) it will be an interesting president in online marketing. If it doesn’t convert visitors to customers, it will be very entertaining but essentially wasteful cash haemorrhage.
I look forward to seeing what happens to little Aleksandr.
